Last night, Boston Police Department’s District 4 officers responded to a reported carjacking at Massachusetts Avenue and Columbus Avenue. According to a Boston Police Department news release, the victim, an Uber driver, was treated by EMS after the incident. A witness told police they saw the victim attacked by a passenger in the back seat. The suspect allegedly used a cord to choke the driver, who managed to escape and call for help. The suspect then drove away in the vehicle. The driver had reportedly picked up the passenger in Cambridge before the assault occurred.
Police tracked the stolen car using the driver’s smartphone, which had been left inside the vehicle. Officers located the car near Stanwood Street and Blue Hill Avenue, where they arrested 24-year-old Christopher Dawkins of Dorchester without incident.
Dawkins faces several charges, including carjacking, strangulation or suffocation, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and receiving a stolen motor vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
