After a prolonged manhunt spanning years and borders, Patrick Robert Shea O'Connor, a suspect in a sexual abuse case that sent shockwaves through multiple communities, has been apprehended. O'Connor was taken into custody in Syracuse, New York, ending a saga that began with his indictment in early 2018 following a thorough investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the case against O'Connor includes harrowing charges, which include engaging a child in explicit conduct and first-degree sexual abuse.
The indictment that led to the recent arrest dates back to January 2018, when a Washington County grand jury charged O'Connor with four counts of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, luring of a minor on five counts, and attempted sodomy in the first degree over four counts. Detectives at the time believed O'Connor had fled the country, a move that launched a cross-border hunt for the suspect involving federal partners - though initially, they came up empty-handed. It was not until November 2025 that fresh intel pointed to O'Connor’s location in Syracuse, leading to his arrest on November 20, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigations unearthed that the abuse took place in multiple locations across Oregon and in Seattle, Washington, the city O'Connor called home. The Seattle Police Department also launched its own investigation into the allegations pertinent to their jurisdiction, underscoring the multi-layered law enforcement collaboration in the case, as noted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The breakthrough came thanks to cooperative efforts between the United States Marshal Service and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, which ultimately resulted in the apprehension of O'Connor.
