A 46-year-old registered sex offender, David Paul Rohrig, has been accused of digital voyeurism following an incident at the Broward Mall in Plantation, Florida, where he allegedly took pictures of a male juvenile from under a bathroom stall. The event is said to have taken place on October 22, with allegations surfacing after a 17-year-old boy noticed an arm extending under the stall with a camera pointed at him, as reported by NBC Miami.
Plantation Police took Rohrig into custody last Friday as he departed from his probation officer's office and the suspect is currently being held on a $50,000 bond; he was reportedly leaving his probation officer's office at the time of his arrest, and now he's also facing a federal probation violation in addition to the voyeurism charge, according to details provided by Local10.
During the incident, the victim quickly tried to seize the phone and confronted Rohrig, who denied taking any photos and reportedly made an expletive-laced denial before hastily leaving the restroom. This encounter was captured in an arrest report quoted by Local10.
The break in the case came when a federal probation officer informed Plantation police that Rohrig's name had been run through the system, subsequently, using software access to Rohrig's phone the officer produced a screenshot revealing the bathroom floor of Broward Mall; it was pivotal evidence that helped solidify the allegations, the probation officer's participation was instrumental and was detailed in reports from NBC Miami.
As the case progresses, Rohrig’s prior federal conviction for possession of child sexual abuse material deepens the seriousness of the current charges.
