An officer-involved shooting in Carter County last Saturday afternoon is under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Deputies were called to a vandalism report in Johnson City and encountered a man armed with a gun who barricaded himself inside his home, leading to an armed standoff, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The man fired at deputies and destroyed a law enforcement drone despite attempts with chemical agents, non-lethal methods, and a fire department water hose to get him to surrender. He was shot by deputies while they tried to enter a barricaded room, taken to a hospital, and pronounced dead. No officers were injured, as reported by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating a police shooting, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to understand what happened. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said its "agents continue to work to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting." Their findings will be given to District Attorney General Steve Finney for review.
