Starship Bagel from the Dallas/Fort Worth area won the best bagel award at BagelFest, held at New York City's Citi Field. The James Beard-nominated bakery, which has a New York location, claimed the title for the second consecutive year, competing against entrants from 13 states and three countries, according to ABC7NY.
The New York BagelFest attracts bagel makers and enthusiasts from around the world. This year, two dozen businesses competed for titles including Best of the Fest, Best of the Boroughs, and Best Schmear. Starship Bagel, which started as a home kitchen, secured its place among the winners, as per Local Profile.
This year’s People’s Choice Award at BagelFest went to Baltik’s Bagel from Richmond, Virginia. Sam Silverman, the festival organizer, noted that BagelFest celebrates both New York bagel culture and the wider global appreciation for bagels.
Starship Bagel entered BagelFest with their Everything and sesame bagels, along with a unique creation called the Lox-A-Roo—a bagel chip and lox-infused spread inspired by Dunk-a-Roos that became a judges’ favorite. The bakery is known for generously topping its bagels with seeds and other ingredients, creating a distinct texture and flavor, a style that founder Oren Salomon told Local Profile is unmatched in their local Texas market.
Starship Bagel, with three locations in Texas and a feature on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, was recognized at New York’s BagelFest for its flavors and consistent quality.
