Early this morning proved to be tragic on US-1 in Fort Pierce, where a shooting incident led to a crash into a power pole and a subsequent vehicle fire. According to CBS12, at around 2:30 a.m., Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) responded to the 1600 block of the highway after reports flowed in of a vehicle accident.

The officers arrived to find the vehicle engaged with a concrete pole and flames engulfing it. The FPPD detailed that, the occupants were able to get out before the fire could cause further harm. "The occupants of the vehicle were able to exit prior to the fire spreading, " the FPPD mentioned in statements. In what has been described by the authorities as an act of violence, while moving southbound, the driver’s vehicle was shot at by an unknown assailant. The driver was wounded by a bullet, leading them to lose control and collide with the pole, thus sparking the fire, as reported by WPBF 25 News.

Following the collision, both individuals in the car were transported to a local hospital, where they received treatment for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. As of now, the suspect remains unidentified and at large. The violence of the incident has prompted a call for witnesses or anyone with information to step forward, in the hope that some light could be shed on the motivations and resolutions of this heinous act.

The aftermath of the accident resulted in a temporary road closure on US-1, signaling a disruption for many in the early hours. CBS12 reports that US-1, between Avenue O and Avenue M, will be closed in both directions for several hours while crews work to repair the damaged power pole. The FPPD is actively seeking information from the public and encourages anyone with details about this incident to contact them at 772-467-6800 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-8477, as indicated by WPBF 25 News.
