Suburban riders counting on their usual Pace routine for Thanksgiving are in for a quieter commute. The suburban bus agency is shifting dozens of routes to a Sunday-level schedule on Thursday, Nov. 27, which means fewer buses, longer waits, and a lot more clock-watching across the region. A few high-profile services, including the Rosemont entertainment shuttle, will see tweaked hours that stretch into the holiday weekend, so anyone heading to stores, concerts, or the airport will want to plan with extra care.

What Changes On Thanksgiving

According to Pace Suburban Bus, more than 30 suburban routes will run on a Sunday timetable on Thursday, Nov. 27. That group includes busy corridors such as routes 208, 250, 270, 290, 301, 303, 307, 309, 311, 330–332, and 352–356, along with the Pulse Dempster and Pulse Milwaukee lines. The agency states that most other routes will not operate at all on Thanksgiving unless specifically noted, and regular weekday service is slated to return on Friday, Nov. 28.

Route 360 and 361 are among the rare exceptions that will stick to their regular Thursday schedules on Thanksgiving, while many other suburban lines will see limited or no service, Country Herald reported. That coverage echoed the agency guidance and urged riders to dig into timetables for exact stops and departure times. The overall goal is to line up service with typical holiday demand and simplify operations on a day when ridership usually dips.

Rosemont Circulator Extends Hours

Per Pace Suburban Bus, the Rosemont Entertainment Circulator will switch to a modified schedule starting at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, and will operate continuously through 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30. The free shuttle connects major Rosemont spot,s including Parkway Bank Park, the Fashion Outlets and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, according to the Village of Rosemont. The extended hours are meant to keep crowds moving for late-night events and Black Friday traffic that spills into the rest of the weekend.

Schaumburg Trolley Switches To Holiday Hours

The Woodfield (Schaumburg) Trolley will kick off its annual holiday schedule on Friday, Nov. 28, and keep it running through New Year’s Day, bringing more frequent weekday and Saturday trips and no service on Christmas Day, according to the Village of Schaumburg. That lineup keeps the trolley in play for post-Thanksgiving shopping runs and weekend visitors, although it remains out of service on Thanksgiving Day itself. Anyone headed to Woodfield Mall or nearby hotels should factor those holiday hours into their game plan.

Plan Your Trip

Pace and local outlets are urging riders to check printed timetables and live tracking tools before setting out during the holiday period; route by route details and real time updates are available online, Country Herald noted. If your plans involve airports, concerts or shopping centers, it is smart to build in extra time and think through alternatives where service is suspended. Pace says most routes are expected to return to normal service on Friday, Nov. 28, although delays and one off changes could still crop up over the busy weekend.
