In a recent ceremony at the City of Miami Commission meeting, U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones was honored by Mayor Francis Suarez with the Key to the City of Miami. Recognized for his 22 years of dedicated service, Reding Quiñones's roots run deep in the city, as he is a native and the progeny of a Cuban political refugee, his journey embodies the values of perseverance and civic duty that are woven into the fabric of Miami's vibrant community. His career reflects a long-standing dedication to public service, with experience as a national security official, prosecutor, military officer, and trial judge. Now serving as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Southern District of Florida, Reding Quiñones leads one of the nation’s busiest U.S. Attorney’s Offices.
Mayor Suarez, in a display of deep appreciation, commended U.S. Attorney Reding Quiñones for his "steadfast dedication to justice" and for being a pivotal figure in the partnership between federal law enforcement and the local government. “The safety of our community is a shared responsibility between state, local, and federal partners. Mayor Suarez’s leadership and unwavering commitment to public safety have made our city stronger, and I’m deeply grateful to accept this recognition on behalf of all who dedicate their lives to serving our community,” said Reding Quiñones, acknowledging the collective effort in maintaining public safety. Yet, the Key to the City is marked by its medieval origins where it signified the freedom for trusted individuals to enter and leave the city; today it serves as a symbol of highest civic gratitude, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The accolades bestowed upon Reding Quiñones aren't just for show; they reflect his unyielding integrity, professionalism, and his role in tackling challenges ranging from violent crime to public corruption. It's the caliber of leader that Reding Quiñones represents, which anchors him as a deserving recipient of one of Miami's most distinguished honors. According to the statement obtained by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mayor Suarez noted the importance of honorees like Reding Quiñones who are "recognized not only for their professional accomplishments, but for their lasting impact on the city’s safety, integrity, and spirit."
In his role as the United States Attorney, Reding Quiñones has his hands full with oversight of several offices, including those in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Fort Pierce. His journey to this position was marked by a presidential appointment, followed by Senate confirmation; prior to which, he had presided over civil and criminal domestic violence cases as a state court trial judge in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida.
