Motorists in Unicoi County should expect delays as bridge construction on State Route 107 (Unicoi Drive) begins on Monday next week at 7 a.m. The project will replace the bridge over North Indian Creek to meet current standards and improve safety, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
The closure is expected to last through December 2026. Traffic will be detoured to Interstate 26, using Exit 32 (State Route 173/Unicoi Road) and Exit 37 (Erwin/Jonesborough). State Route 107 and State Route 173 will be reduced to one lane, controlled by a temporary traffic light connecting Unicoi Drive and Washington Street. Detour signs will be posted to guide drivers.
Tennessee Department of Transportation advises motorists to plan ahead and stay informed by using the TDOT SmartWay system or calling 511 for travel updates. Drivers are also reminded to avoid distractions such as phone use while traveling through construction zones. The project’s completion schedule depends on favorable weather conditions.
