In a move signaling appreciation for the state's workforce, Governor Spencer J. Cox has honored 25 state employees with the 2025 Governor’s Awards for Excellence. The ceremony, which took place at the Utah State Capitol, celebrated individuals who have gone above and beyond in their service to the public across various departments. Akin to a ticker-tape parade for civil service, the gesture underlines the Utah executive branch's commitment to recognizing diligence and innovative spirit among its ranks.
"Utah works because dedicated public servants show up for the people of this state," declared Gov. Cox, as per the Utah Governor's Office. The selected few, among thousands serving Utah, were recognized in categories ranging from Peer Leadership to Embracing Innovation, including Heroism, Humanitarianism, Impacting Culture, and a new accolade termed Exemplary Leadership. This initiative, established in 2007, is not merely about handing over plaques but setting a precedent for expected levels of service, leadership, and outcomes for the people of Utah.
The list of recipients, available here, includes standouts such as Gracia Allen from the Utah Office of the Lieutenant Governor, who was noted for Embracing Innovation, and Jackie Andrew of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, who earned the Exemplary Leadership Award. Employees were commended from a swath of departments, underscoring the vast expanse of public service roles that keep the state's machinery oiled and operational.
"Thank you to them and to the families who support their service," added Gov. Cox, as obtained by the Utah Governor's Office, driving home the point that public service is often a collective effort buoyed by community and familial backing. It’s a nice change of pace to shine a light on those who often toil away from the limelight, ensuring that everything from the Department of Corrections to the Alcoholic Beverage Services runs without a hitch. Especially helping Utah's image as a place deeply committed to forward-thinking governance and public welfare.
