Yesterday, a man suspected of robbing a Walgreens in American Canyon was apprehended after a combination of law enforcement teamwork and canine prowess. The American Canyon Police Department responded to the Walgreens at approximately 9:15 AM, after a male suspect robbed a victim of over $2,000 during a money transfer, according to a social media post from the American Canyon Police Department. The suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Jyryn Austin-Andrews of Vallejo, fled the scene in a 2003 Lexus sedan.

After the getaway car was involved in a traffic collision in Vacaville, Austin-Andrews attempted to escape on foot. Vacaville police officers found the suspect, aided by K9 Nova, who tracked him down to his hiding place in the bushes. "Nova’s sharp nose and determination helped recover stolen currency and track down a suspect who tried to hide in the bushes after a collision. Her incredible teamwork and instincts remind us once again how vital our K9 partners are to keeping our community safe," stated the American Canyon Police Department in a press release.

Austin-Andrews now faces multiple charges: robbery, driving without a valid driver's license, driving in possession of a stolen vehicle, leaving the scene of a traffic collision, and driving under the influence. In their vehicle, authorities found a large sum of money believed to be stolen from the Walgreens. The suspect was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections, and the investigation remains ongoing.
