Vallejo police made a recent arrest of a man after a failed attempt to evade capture led to the discovery of a firearm. According to a post on the Vallejo Police Department's Facebook page, the incident occurred on Sunday when a Toyota Prius made an unsafe left turn on Lewis Brown Drive and Broadway Street, almost hitting another vehicle. Officers from the Patrol Division noticed the incident and approached the vehicle.
The situation escalated as the driver parked at a business driveway. It started a foot chase, running through commercial areas and unsuccessfully trying to leap over a fence, which turned out to be the perimeter of his own home, where officers finally took him into custody. During a subsequent search, the officers found a loaded firearm in the suspect's pocket, revealing that he was a convicted felon with past offenses, including possession of a controlled substance, assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary; furthermore, it came to light that his driver's license had expired, compounding his legal troubles.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was booked into Solano County Jail. He faces fresh charges related to the weapon and failing to stop for the police. The gun that was confiscated did not belong to anyone in Vallejo, as attempts to contact the registered owner were unsuccessful.
