Honolulu firefighters quickly extinguished a house fire Wednesday evening on Kumaipo Street in Waianae, leaving the single-story home empty but safe. A 911 call came in at 6:24 p.m., and the first unit arrived at 6:34 p.m., finding smoke at the rear of the home, Hawaii News Now reported. Firefighters had the flames under control about four minutes later and remained on scene until 7 p.m. to handle hot spots.
HFD Response And Active Investigation
The department sent 10 units with 42 personnel to the scene and carried out a search that confirmed no one was inside the home, the Star-Advertiser reported. Officials told the paper the fire was fully out by 7:01 p.m., and that damage estimates are still being calculated while investigators continue their work.
Context: Recent Waianae Incidents
Honolulu Fire Department releases show similarly quick responses to other residential fires in Waianae earlier this year, with crews rapidly securing scenes and opening investigations. See the Honolulu Fire Department advisory and earlier local coverage of another Waianae house fire.
Investigators plan to release formal damage estimates and an official determination of the fire’s origin once their review is complete, city officials told the Star-Advertiser. We will update this story if the department shares additional details.
