Tewksbury police reported the recent arrest of a Waltham man wanted on multiple felony warrants. Wagner Frade, a 37-year-old resident of Waltham, was apprehended following a carefully coordinated surveillance operation. According to a statement from the Tewksbury Police Department, the arrest took place yesterday morning on Main Street.
The Tewksbury Police Department that Frade was being sought after Waltham Police alerted them of his presence in their jurisdiction. Frade faced warrants which included domestic charges, witness intimidation, unarmed robbery, and failing to stop for police, in addition to leaving the scene of property damage. The operation commenced without attempting an immediate traffic stop because of Frade's history with evasion, and the necessity to avoid a potential chase in a busy area.
Observing Frade driving around 7 a.m., officers decided to wait until he parked and exited his vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and Newton Avenue. With backup called, they approached on foot and successfully carried out the arrest without any further incident.
In response to the successful operation, Tewksbury Police Chief Columbus acknowledged the restraint and professionalism of his officers in an official announcement, saying, "Our officers followed the suspect until he exited his vehicle, called in appropriate backup, and made an uneventful arrest without anyone being placed in danger." Frade is expected to face these charges at the Waltham District Court.
