West Chester became the focus of emergency responses as firefighters tackled a commercial blaze at Vistech Manufacturing Solutions on Thunderbird Lane on Tuesday. According to FOX19, the West Chester Fire Department was alerted to the fire around 3:15 p.m. and faced significant challenges due to the materials involved.
West Chester Fire Chief Rick Prinz described conditions that made the suppression efforts particularly difficult, with the plant containing large, dense rolls of fabric used in manufacturing car floorboards. "They're very big, like hay bale size rolls that are just in racks throughout the building," Prinz explained, according to FOX19. Despite early setbacks and the risk of roof collapse, as noted by WLWT, crews managed to extinguish the flames by roughly 7:30 p.m., preventing injuries and wider threats to public safety.
In a detailed statement obtained by LOCAL12, the scope of the response was emphasized, revealing involvement from multiple departments, including Woodlawn and Sharonville, to help combat the fire. This community-wide response underscores the agility and collaborative spirit of local emergency services when facing industrial accidents.
The investigation into the cause is ongoing. Meanwhile, Prinz credited the sprinkler system with keeping the fire at bay, despite creating additional weight that posed a challenge for firefighters. "They're all wet from the sprinkler system. They're very heavy, there's a lot of them on fire, some of them are rolling off the racks, creating a hazard for our firefighters," Prinz told FOX19. Thunderbird Lane was reopened the following morning, marking the end of an intensive night for both the fire crews and the community.
