Wilson County residents are responding to a reported case of animal cruelty after an injured black dog was discovered. On September 18, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office reported on a social media post that Wilson County Animal Control (WCAC) responded to Oak Grove Road, where they found the dog with a severely injured front right leg.
The dog, found wearing a blue collar, was transported to a local veterinarian for treatment. X-rays revealed bullet fragments in the dog’s leg, indicating it had been shot twice. One bullet grazed the spine, while the other struck the front right leg, causing a severe fracture at the elbow.
Following the discovery, Wilson County Animal Control and the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division launched a joint investigation. Detectives identified 23-year-old Cory Evans as the suspect believed to have fired the shots. After gathering evidence and completing the necessary legal procedures, an indictment was obtained, and Evans was taken into custody on one count of aggravated animal cruelty.
While the legal process moves forward, attention remains on the dog’s recovery. The animal is receiving ongoing care from a local veterinarian and is expected to make steady progress despite the severity of its injuries.
