Last Friday, two men were stopped by local law enforcement. The Worcester Police Department's Gang Unit flagged a vehicle on Main Street for operating with a suspended license shortly after the workday had started to quiet. The stop, which took place around 5:30 p.m., led to more than a standard traffic citation.

In a Facebook post, the Worcester Police Department outlined the incident. The situation escalated when the driver acknowledged not having a valid driver’s license. Meanwhile, the passenger, 24-year-old Joseph Baez, appeared to be repeatedly reaching toward the floorboard, prompting officers to request that both individuals exit the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed 10 baggies suspected to contain crack cocaine and six baggies suspected to contain fentanyl on the passenger side where Baez had been seated. This discovery led to his arrest on charges of drug possession with intent to distribute.

Baez now faces charges of possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute and distribution of a Class B substance. The driver, who was operating a vehicle with a suspended license, was also taken into custody. Both men are currently in custody, and their cases will be addressed through the legal system.
