After the year’s big shopping days, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office reminded residents to protect their delivered packages. With more deliveries coming after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the office shared tips on social media to help prevent theft. The advice includes easy steps people can take to keep their packages safe.
One of the main tips shared on their Facebook post is to track your packages. Tracking lets people follow their deliveries through real-time updates. They also recommend not leaving packages unattended. If someone is out of town, the office suggests asking a neighbor or friend who is home to pick up the delivery.
The Sheriff’s Office also suggests giving clear delivery instructions and choosing a signature requirement when possible. For higher-value items, these steps can help ensure the package is received safely. They also recommend setting up a secure place for deliveries, such as a lockable box or a designated pickup location.
They also encourage installing security tools like cameras and motion-sensor lights. These can help discourage theft and provide useful evidence if something is stolen. The Facebook post ends with a reminder: “If you notice suspicious activity or are a victim of package theft, please report it to non-emergency dispatch 503-434-6500 (503-538-8321 in Newberg) immediately.”
