A high-speed, inter-county police chase culminated in the arrest of a 19-year-old driver identified as Zander Wilson from Williamsport, Indiana, after he allegedly led officers through a dangerous pursuit on Friday night. Indiana State Police reported that the incident began when a state trooper tried to stop Wilson for a traffic violation near Lafayette, only to have the situation escalate as the teenager fled in his 2025 Honda Civic, weaving through Tippecanoe, Fountain, and ultimately ending in Warren County. The apprehension followed after Wilson's vehicle became ensnared in snow, as detailed in a news release from Indiana State Police yesterday.
The pursuit was a result of a traffic stop attempt by Trooper McKinney, as described in an account from Country Herald, when the trooper recognized the Civic as the same vehicle that had earlier evaded the Lafayette Police Department. Wilson's decision to not comply with the stop signalled the beginning of the prolonged chase across the counties. He is now facing multiple preliminary charges including operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment and possession of marijuana.
The chase, which saw collaboration among several law enforcement agencies, ended without injury but with Wilson's vehicle stuck in the snow, per WTHR. Police indicated that they believe Wilson was under the influence during the pursuit. Deputies from the Tippecanoe, Fountain, and Warren County Sheriff's Offices, as well as the Lafayette Police Department, were involved in the chase and subsequent arrest.
The charges Wilson is facing include resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, and a minor in possession of alcohol, among others. After the chase concluded near the snowy intersection of County Road 1000 East and County Road 450 North, Wilson was booked into the Tippecanoe County Jail.
