
A tragic single-vehicle crash yesterday has resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man from Cape Cod. The accident occurred in the early afternoon on Highbank Road near Coveview Drive, South Yarmouth, according to officials.
Multiple 911 calls reported the crash around 1:17 p.m., prompting an immediate response by local authorities. Upon arrival, Yarmouth Police found the car overturned and fully engulfed in flames in a wooded area, as reported by NBC Boston. Attempts to quickly extinguish the blaze were unsuccessful, with officers unable to put out the fire before the vehicle was consumed.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Confirming the details of the incident, WCVB added that no passengers were in the car and no other vehicles were implicated in the crash.
In the aftermath of the emergency, three Yarmouth police officers were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment due to smoke inhalation. Highbank Road was subsequently shut down for several hours to facilitate a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
