A quiet stretch of San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood turned into a crime scene yesterday when four men were shot, with one later dying at a local hospital, according to police.
Officers were called to the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. for reports of gunfire. When they got there, though, they did not find any victims at the scene. Investigators later learned that four adult men had individually shown up at area hospitals with gunshot wounds ranging from minor to life-threatening.
The men had self-transported to medical care and one of them was pronounced dead at a hospital, the San Jose Police Department said in a post cited by the San Francisco Chronicle. Police told the outlet that the investigation is ongoing but said there was “no threat to public safety at this time.”
Police Lock Down Lincoln Avenue
San Jose officers said they responded to the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue around 3 AM yet initially saw no victims before getting word that four men had turned up at hospitals, according to SFGATE. The department later posted on X, asking people to steer clear of Lincoln Avenue between Franquette Avenue and Curtner Avenue while detectives combed the area for evidence.
The stretch was expected to stay closed for an undetermined period as officers documented the scene, collected shell casings and other physical evidence, and mapped out where the gunfire appeared to have started.
Victim Status And Search For Motive
Authorities said the four men suffered injuries of varying severity, and that one of them died from his wounds at a hospital Sunday afternoon, NBC Bay Area reported. Police had not publicly released updated conditions for the remaining three victims as of yesterday.
Detectives were seen canvassing the Willow Glen area, knocking on doors and talking with potential witnesses as they worked to nail down a timeline and figure out what triggered the shooting. Investigators are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and homes in an effort to identify any suspects or vehicles tied to the attack.
Part Of A Violent Week In San Jose
This latest shooting lands just days after a separate shooting at Westfield Valley Fair mall that injured multiple people, a case prosecutors are aggressively pursuing in San Jose, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Together, the incidents highlight a run of public gun violence the city’s police and prosecutors are now juggling.
Police did not immediately announce any arrests in the Willow Glen case and urged anyone with information to contact investigators, ABC7 Bay Area reported. Authorities said more details will be released as they work through witness statements, video evidence and hospital reports.
