A 79-year-old Acton woman is in the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a sedan while crossing the street in Littleton on Wednesday night. The incident occurred at the intersection of King and Goldsmith Streets just after 7 p.m., as confirmed by Littleton Police Chief Matthew Pinard, 7NEWS reports.
The driver, identified as a local food delivery driver, remained on the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. The delivery driver's involvement in the incident highlights a rise in such work-related accidents as the food delivery industry continues to expand. Authorities have not indicated if charges will be filed, and the investigation is ongoing, according to a NewsCenter 5 report.
Littleton police initially released some incorrect information regarding the victim's age and the exact time of the accident, but they have since updated their statement. The victim was indeed a septuagenarian pedestrian, caught in the violent interplay of steel and flesh, and not the 69-year-old woman as previously reported.
Police are investigating after a woman was injured while crossing a street. Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Authorities expect to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
