An 81-year-old Hudson man lost his life in Pelham after his car struck a utility pole, causing live wires to fall onto his vehicle. The accident on Keyes Hill Road occurred just before 4:30 p.m. yesterday, as reported by NBC Boston. The gray Lincoln MKZ the man was driving suffered heavy damage as it severed the pole.
Rescue efforts were complicated because of the live wires draping the vehicle. Authorities were challenged to extract the elderly driver, meaning the power had to be cut to the surrounding area before they could safely reach him. This request was initiated by Pelham police, according to the same report by NBC Boston.
Following the accident, Keyes Hill Road was closed to traffic and did not reopen until around 6:30 this morning, as stated by WMUR. Crews worked through the night to repair the damage caused by the crash. The identity of the man has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver was eventually removed from the vehicle by the Pelham Fire Department and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, "Police said he later died at the hospital," as per NBC Boston. The investigation into this fatal incident remains active, with authorities seeking witnesses. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to Pelham Police Sgt.
