Metro Atlanta residents now have access to the area’s first drone delivery service, thanks to a partnership between Wing, a subsidiary of Alphabet, and Walmart. The service, which began on Wednesday, delivers groceries, gifts, and essentials directly to consumers’ doorsteps, offering added convenience during the busy holiday season.
The service is available from six Walmart stores in Metro Atlanta, including locations in Conyers, Woodstock, and Hiram. Eligible products include groceries, household items, and over-the-counter medications. According to the City of Conyers, Heather Rivera, Wing’s Chief Business Officer, said, “bringing the same spirit of speed and efficiency to thousands of Walmart customers across the Metro just in time for the busiest season of the year.”
Atlanta is the first major metro area to gain access to Wing and Walmart’s combined drone delivery service. The companies plan to expand to 100 additional Walmart stores nationwide by 2026. Wing’s success in Dallas-Fort Worth, where thousands of orders are delivered weekly, serves as a model for Atlanta’s program.
Atlanta residents can now use Wing’s drone delivery service via the app. Orders are typically delivered in five minutes or less, with drones flying at about 60 mph at an altitude of roughly 150 feet. Over 75% of customers have used the service more than once within the year. As reported by the City of Conyers, Conyers City Manager Kameron Kelley said, “We’re delighted to welcome this innovative form of delivery through Wing and Walmart to the Conyers community.”
Metro Atlanta residents can check if their home is within the drone delivery zone and join a waitlist on Wing’s website. For those already in range, the service offers a faster and more convenient way to receive holiday orders.
