On Christmas Day, 21-year-old Cesar Cruz-Santiago of Anderson allegedly caused a serious accident while driving under the influence. Noblesville police report his Chevy Silverado rolled over on I-69 around 4:50 p.m., leaving a woman in critical condition, according to Fox59.
According to WIBC, the driver swerved from the far-left lane to the right, hitting a guardrail and causing the Chevy Silverado to roll over. The passenger, Patricia Laurido, 36, of Anderson, was severely injured and hospitalized. Cruz-Santiago sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is now booked in Hamilton County Jail, facing charges of operating a vehicle with an ACE of .08% or more and operating without a license, both causing injury.
The Noblesville Police Department is continuing its investigation into the rollover crash. Authorities remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving, particularly during the holiday season.
The aftermath of the accident still holds many questions, with law enforcement not disclosing additional information about Laurido's condition nor Cruz-Santiago's potential further charges as yet. However, as WRBI Radio reported, authorities are clear in their message: impairment is strongly believed to have played a critical role in this crash, a stark reminder of the perils that too often accompany holiday joy with reckless abandon.
