Argos and Lapaz are gearing up for some much-needed infrastructure boosts, with over $192,000 heading their way. Thanks to the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, the two Hoosier communities are among the nearly 200 beneficiaries of the latest funding round dedicated to local road improvements. This state initiative, a brainchild of the House Republicans since 2016, is distributing $100 million in state matching grants for a variety of infrastructure projects across the state.
Representatives Jack Jordan (R-Bremen) and Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty) have been instrumental in facilitating the distribution of these funds. "Reliable infrastructure is important when it comes to attracting residents and growing the local economy," Jordan said. Teshka also chimed in on the program's design to support communities of various sizes, specifying the match percentages required from municipalities to qualify for the funding.
Moreover, the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program has a stipulation benefitting less populated areas; it mandates that half of the matching funds each year go to communities within counties housing fewer than 50,000 people. Since its inception, the Community Crossings program has poured over $2 billion into local road and bridge enhancements, indicating a substantial commitment to infrastructure statewide.
The importance of well-maintained roadways to Indiana’s economic growth was highlighted by Teshka's remarks on the collaboration between local and state government. "Part of growing Indiana's economy includes maintaining and improving our roadways," Teshka said. "When local governments and the state partner together, we can help ensure everyone gets to their destinations safely."
