Bringing in the holiday spirit with some good old community bonding, Arlington showed us how it's done at the Mayor’s Holiday Luncheon this past Monday, an event that stuffed more than just the turkeys. More than 250 locals packed into ACTIV to share a meal and enjoy some seasonal entertainment, marking a new attendance record for the annual shindig. The spread was catered by Spring Creek BBQ, which, if their smoky rep is anything to go by, was likely a hit with the festive attendees.
According to Arlington Parks, Recreation & Culture, the event wasn't just about devouring brisket and sides; it also featured performances that tugged on the heartstrings, with Joy Strings – Anne Bressert, Arlington HS Colt Choraliers, and the Martin HS Choraliers taking the stage ensuring guests not only left with full bellies but also with full hearts, which is a holiday two-for-one any way you slice it.
Chick-fil-A was tipped as a supporting hand in pulling off this shindig, which is as intriguing as it is appetizing - one doesn't immediately associate waffle fries with Yuletide tunes, but any contribution to municipal merry-making is a welcome one, right? But let's not forget the heroes without capes, the over 30 City of Arlington staff volunteers, without whom, the event probably would’ve looked more like a chaotic flash mob than a luncheon according to ACTIV reports.
