Last night, Londonderry, New Hampshire, became the epicenter of a heavy police presence following reports of an armed suspect barricaded at a local gas station, which resulted in the temporary shutdown of several roads in the area. According to a statement by the Londonderry Police Department on Facebook, the incident began in Manchester, where officers had encountered an individual believed to be armed and undergoing a mental health crisis, which progressed to a tense confrontation at the Triangle Mobil station, as reported by NBC Boston.
See, the chase initiated in Manchester led the suspect to flee to Londonderry, where law enforcement strategically immobilized the suspect's vehicle near the gas station. Despite the duration and efforts from negotiators, the standoff culminated with the suspect taking their own life. The Manchester SWAT team had been deployed, and even an exchange of gunfire occurred, though fortunately there were no casualties. While the identity of the individual has not been publicly released, pending notification of the family, the aftermath of the incident had the coroner arriving, as witnessed by a WMUR crew, which also saw the suspect's car being towed away early this morning. The Londonderry Police released an update that an autopsy conducted today confirmed the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident, which began roughly at 9:15 p.m. and ended close to 11:15 p.m., according to both the Manchester and Londonderry police departments, locked down the area around Mammoth and Rockingham roads for several hours.
