Early yesterday morning, a woman suffered gunshot wounds in a scene of domestic violence that unfolded at a dental office in Athens. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) reported to 11Alive that the shooting occurred just after 6:30 a.m. at McRae Family Dental, located on Baxter Street. While details on the reason behind their presence at the office early in the morning remain unclear, the victim was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
The suspect in the incident, identified as 74-year-old Carl Clark, did not remain on scene upon police arrival and was later located in Butts County. According to a report by FOX 5 Atlanta, authorities conducted a traffic stop to arrest Clark, which led to him sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot. He was hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition. Clark currently faces charges that include aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and criminal attempt to commit murder.
Both reports state that the dental office would not have yet opened for business at the time of the incident, according to its published operating hours. ACCPD has not disclosed the identity or condition of the woman who was shot, nor the exact relationship between her and Clark.
