Atlanta residents can expect a varied weather pattern for the upcoming week, according to the National Weather Service. Today heralds sunny skies with a brisk northwest wind of about 15 mph and occasional gusts reaching up to 25 mph. The clarity of the sky, however, belies the chill in the air, as temperatures are to rise only to a high near 42 degrees.
Tonight's weather looks to stay mostly clear but with temperatures dipping slightly lower to around 27 degrees. The northwest wind is expected to continue at around 10 mph, with gusts that can swiftly rise up to 20 mph. As Wednesday arrives, the sunny conditions persist, nudging the thermometer to a more comfortable high near 51, accompanied by a gentler west wind moving at 5 to 10 mph, though with gusts maintaining their vigor at around 20 mph.
Looking towards the New Year's celebrations, Wednesday night's forecast suggests a mostly clear evening with a low near 34 degrees. The trend of pleasant weather carries over into New Year's Day with yet another promise of sun and a high near 56 degrees. The west wind remains constant, keeping the calm at 5 to 10 mph along with potential gusts as high as 15 mph.
However, the tranquility of the week takes a turn come Friday as there's a 30 percent chance for showers after 1 pm. The skies are to become mostly cloudy with a high near 59 degrees. By Friday night, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are on the horizon, with the odds of precipitation skyrocketing to 90 percent and a low muddling around 50 degrees. "Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers," the National Weather Service warns for Saturday, heading into a mostly cloudy day with high temperatures edging near 60 degrees and a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
The weather for the remainder of the weekend balances somewhat, with Saturday night easing into mostly cloudy skies and a low around 44 degrees. Sunday's forecast indicates partly sunny conditions with a high near 58, which slightly cools down into a partly cloudy night with a low around 42. As the workweek dawns on Monday, a mostly sunny day with a high near 61 is anticipated.
