Attention Atlanta commuters: You'll need to adjust your mid-week travel plans if you're anywhere near Decatur Street SE. The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) will be putting a stop to the usual flow of traffic from Peachtree Center Avenue SE to Park Place SE starting at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:00 p.m. today. The road closure is part of ongoing construction activities happening at 46 Decatur Street SE.
The impact of this temporary closure isn't insignificant. Enforcement officers will be on the ground to help direct vehicles and support with traffic control, but commuters should be ready for some detour action. For drivers heading westbound on Decatur St SE, the altered path will take them right onto Peachtree Ctr Ave SE, then a left onto Edgewood Ave SE to either Marietta St NW or Peachtree St NE, as per the ATLDOT traffic advisory.
Meanwhile, those navigating eastbound coming from Marietta St NW will have reroute their journey: a right turn onto Pryor St SE, a left onto Wall St SW, and another left onto Central Ave SW which will lead them back to Decatur St SE. These detours are in place for the duration the road closure and are expected to accommodate the cut-off traffic flow.
If you're scratching your head over the best way to get where you need to go, or you've got questions that are burning a hole in your pocket, ATLDOT has offered up an email at [email protected].
