Baton Rouge Community College student Caden Fletcher recently completed the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division Internship Program. As part of the internship, he spent 90 to 130 hours shadowing Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents during patrols, training, and outreach events to gain a full understanding of an Enforcement Agent’s duties. He presented his final report on Dec. 10 at Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Headquarters to receive his college credit.

According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the internship program, launched in 2021, is designed to give students real-world experience in conservation law enforcement and help prepare them for possible future careers as Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Agents. Faculty who want to include this program in their curriculum can contact Sgt. Dale Wheat at [email protected]. The internship allows students to engage directly with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents and their field activities.

Fletcher’s final presentation highlighted what he learned throughout the program and showcased how valuable hands-on experience can be for students interested in wildlife and environmental protection. His work reflects the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division’s goal of encouraging practical learning and fostering future conservation professionals.
