The Bay Area is currently experiencing a combination of minor coastal flooding and a cold snap, prompting advisories from the National Weather Service (NWS). According to NWS San Francisco, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3 PM Sunday for the shorelines of San Francisco Bay, San Pablo Bay, and Monterey Bay. Concurrently, a Cold Weather Advisory, covering North Bay Valleys, East Bay Valleys, and parts of Monterey and San Benito counties, warns of chilly temperatures that could be hazardous, especially for the unhoused population.

The cold has been biting, with overnight temperatures ranging from 33 to 36 degrees and dipping even lower to the upper 20s in higher elevations. This can lead to hypothermia if precautions aren't taken. "The clear skies combined with relatively light winds increased radiational cooling effectiveness overnight," the NWS San Francisco noted, explaining the expansion of the Cold Weather Advisory to additional valleys, a chilling reality for those most vulnerable. Expected to subside after Friday morning, the advisory cautions locals to exercise caution as the cold grips the region.

With a forecast that seems more serene than stormy, the upcoming week is shaping up to be dry and undramatic, weather-wise. "Otherwise, the large area of upper level high pressure parked off the CA will slowly ooze eastward," said the Area Forecast Discussion from NWS San Francisco. While we can expect some clouds and the occasional drizzle over coastal waters, no significant precipitation is on the horizon. Drizzle over the coastal waters this weekend may give locals a taste of dampness, but the Bay Area stays mostly thirsty for any substantial rain.

In terms of aviation, fog and low clouds have complicated visibility in parts of the North and East Bay, but these conditions are expected to clear as the day progresses. "Expect winds to reduce into the evening and overnight with fog and low clouds building along the coast and interior valleys later into the night," according to the same NWS forecast. Mariners are also warned of fresh to strong gusts across the waters, conditions that might stir under the sway of building winds, with advisory notices in place for select coastal areas and outer waters until Sunday.
