St. Vincent de Paul Georgia, a nonprofit serving families in need, received a $5 million donation from Jeff and Lauren Bezos through their Day 1 Families Fund. This is the largest contribution in the organization’s history since its founding in 1903 and will support efforts to combat homelessness in the region.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, the grant from Jeff and Lauren Bezos’ Day 1 Families Fund will be distributed over five years. The funding will support housing assistance and services, including life-skills training, income-advancement counseling, and individualized casework. Mike Mies, executive director of SVdP Georgia, said the grant aligns with the organization’s mission to help families achieve stable and sustainable living.
Expressing gratitude, Mike Mies, executive director of SVdP Georgia, said, “We are tremendously grateful for the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund award. It affirms our mission and will expand our capacity to help families move to stable housing and build long-term stability,” according to WSBTV. He added that the grant is expected to encourage further community support for families facing housing insecurity.
St. Vincent de Paul Georgia said the donation will help them support families experiencing severe housing instability, including those sleeping in cars or other temporary spaces. Since 2018, the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund has donated over $850 million nationwide to combat homelessness.
