Kevin G. Conover, 49, a teacher at Christian Unified High School, was arrested yesterday outside his El Cajon campus on multiple child sex charges, authorities said. Investigators say the case stems from an Oct. 1 report that was later assigned to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Child Abuse Unit before detectives took Conover into custody.
Sheriff’s Office: Charges and Investigation
According to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, detectives with the Child Abuse Unit developed probable cause that Conover committed oral copulation with a victim under 18, alleged as aggravated sexual abuse of a child under Penal Code 269(a)(4). He is also accused of three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child (PC 288(a)) and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child (PC 288.5).
Deputies first responded to the report on Oct. 1, 2025, according to the release. The Child Abuse Unit handled follow-up work, and Conover was arrested yesterday and booked into San Diego Central Jail.
School Role and Local Campus
Conover is listed on the district’s staff directory as a Bible teacher and Bible department chair at the junior and senior high campus, according to the school’s website. Christian Unified’s El Cajon campus is listed at 2100 Greenfield Drive, which is where deputies say Conover was detained outside the campus, according to the sheriff’s release.
What the Charges Mean
The offenses cited by detectives are felonies under California law. Legal summaries note that aggravated sexual assault of a child under PC 269 can carry a sentence of 15 years to life, while continuous sexual abuse under PC 288.5 can carry potential terms of 6, 12, or 16 years. Lewd and lascivious act counts under PC 288 also carry multi-year state prison terms, according to legal resources from Justia.
