It may not be the typical beat for police officers, but in Billerica, Massachusetts, three members of the local police force took it upon themselves to ensure that Amazon packages found discarded were delivered to their rightful owners. According to NBC Boston, Officer Samuel Hawkes first discovered eight packages in the middle of the road behind Towne Plaza on a Tuesday night. Along with Officer Matthew Irwin, they made sure the parcels reached the residents of Billerica.
A week later, on Tuesday, Officer Thomas Huff found more Amazon packages in disarray near 129 Plaza on Salem Road. According to WCVB, he delivered the parcels to their intended addresses.
Amazon was notified of the found packages in both cases, but the company declined to comment. The cause of the packages being left in disarray remains under investigation.
Billerica Police Chief Roy Frost praised the officers’ actions. “These two incidents really highlight the care that Billerica Police officers put into their jobs, whether they are responding to a major emergency or just ensuring that residents get lost packages during the holiday season,” he told NBC Boston.
