The Boston Police Department announced the arrests of three individuals connected to a carjacking that occurred late last month in Dorchester. The arrests, involving a coordinated effort between the Youth Violence Strike Force, the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, and the Transit Police, took place over the course of 24 hours on Tuesday.
The first to be taken into custody was a 17-year-old juvenile male, nabbed near 10 Abbotsford Street around 2:30 PM. He faces a litany of charges including armed carjacking and carrying a firearm without a license, as reported on the official Boston Police Department website. The suspect is expected to stand before Boston Juvenile Court for his arraignment.
Amid the initial arrest, a second person began to record and taunt the arresting officers. Quickly identified as being involved in the same carjacking incident, 19-year-old Aamir Sylvia was taken into custody. Sylvia is facing charges including armed carjacking, firearm, a threat to commit a crime, and conspiracy. His arraignment is expected to take place in Roxbury District Court.
The final arrest occurred the following morning when Transit Police came across Atiana Suazo, 20, at Ashmont Train Station. Suazo, tied to the same incident, was arrested and is also slated for arraignment in Dorchester District Court.
The case stems from an incident on November 29, when officers responded to reports of an armed carjacking at the intersection of Columbia Road and Quincy Street in Dorchester. The victim was confronted by suspects wielding firearms who then made off with the vehicle. Boston Police later found the stolen vehicle abandoned in the area of 14 Abbotsford Street. The vehicle has been towed and secured for further investigation.
