The Brentwood Police Department's commitment to excellence has once again been recognized as they secured national accreditation in November from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) through their Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation program, as reported by the city's official news announcement. Since first receiving this esteemed status in 1989, Brentwood PD’s continued pursuit of professional law enforcement standards is a testament to their dedication to maintaining public trust and safety.
In a rigorous process that reflects steadfast commitment to the highest standards; the Brentwood Police Department embarked on a multi-year self-assessment phase, followed by a comprehensive site-based assessment which encompassed all facets of their operation, including community engagement, policy, and procedures, to their equipment and facilities, as Chief Jim Colvin mentioned, emphasizing that reaccreditation is a serious affirmation of their dedication to the community's well-being in a statement to the official city news outlet. The assessment's favorable outcome led to a voyage to Jacksonville, Florida, where Colvin and Brentwood Police Lt. Kristin King presented before the prestigious 21-member Board of Commissioners of CALEA at their conference, thus setting the stage for the department’s confirmation of accreditation.
Celebrating the summit of this endeavor, the Brentwood Police Department was honored at a banquet where CALEA President Matthew Packard and Executive Director Craig Hartley formally recognized the department's unwavering excellence in public safety, this being the department's 11th acquisition of the national accreditation award. As Packard explained, achieving this level of accreditation is a monumental task, demanding extensive review and upgrades within agencies, followed by an enduring commitment to adhering to CALEA's stringent standards, stating, “This award of accreditation does not come easy,” as told on Brentwood’s news page.
Initially established in 1979, CALEA was the unified ambition of four major law enforcement organizations, aiming to enhance public safety practices across the board by introducing a set of standards reflective of the most effective and progressive international approaches, culminating in the rigorous accreditation processes agencies like Brentwood PD undergo to demonstrate high-caliber public safety operations; their continuous achievement of CALEA accreditation not only signifies the Brentwood Police Department's resolve to maintain exceptional standards but also brings a greater sense of security to their community, whose confidence remains a testament to the department's unwavering vigilance and professionalism.
