Early on a December morning, a Buckeye Police Department officer was involved in a shooting that left a man wounded, authorities report. The incident, which occurred around 3:45 a.m. on December 19 near Rainbow Road and Sundance Parkway, was the result of a fight that escalated quickly when officers arrived on the scene, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
Upon arrival, a Buckeye officer found two men in an altercation, one armed with a gun and its muzzle pointed at the other man. In a statement obtained by AZFamily, the officer shot the armed man in his 40s in the arm and then applied a tourniquet until further medical assistance arrived. The man's injuries were reported as not serious, and no officers sustained injuries during the confrontation.
Both articles referenced an investigation by the Glendale Police Department, which concluded that no criminal actions were taken by the officer involved. "After interviewing everyone involved, investigators determined that although criminal activity occurred, none of the parties involved in the disturbance wished to pursue prosecution," police said. The same investigation also noted that "The officer perceived an immediate threat upon arrival, leading to the shooting. No one involved is considered a suspect, and no charges are anticipated," reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
The Glendale Police have decided against recommending charges against the officer, citing the circumstances of the incident, where the officer reacted to what was perceived as an imminent threat to another person's life. No one involved is being considered a suspect, and no charges are expected; however, the full case will still be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. Roads that had been closed in the aftermath of the shooting have since been reopened to the public.
