A 55-year-old Canutillo man faces charges of animal cruelty after authorities found a dead dog and several others in poor condition at his residence. According to  KTSM, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the El Paso County Animal Welfare Unit discovered during an investigation at a home in the 400 block of Elk Way on Monday, Dec. 15.

The man, identified as Juan Gutierrez, was arrested following the investigation that unveiled the neglected animals. In a statement obtained by KFOX-TV, Gutierrez is being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $15,000 bond. Deputies discovered the deceased canine and, in conjunction with the Animal Welfare Unit, other animals in a state of neglect.

Gutierrez has been booked on four counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals, a factor that points to the gravity of the accusations against him. As described by KVIA, all of the dogs found at Gutierrez's home were in bad condition, expanding the scope of the investigation and subsequent charges.
