The City of Carmel is ramping up the festive mood with its upcoming International Winter Festival at Civic Square Gazebo, which is free and open to all. Positioned as the cultural counterpart to the commercial hubbub of the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, the festival is set to occur on Friday, Dec. 12, from 7–8 p.m., aiming to foster both community fellowship and a broader international awareness. A special evening that was previously known as Sister Cities Christmas at the Gazebo, has understandably grown to more inclusively represent Carmel's global ties.
Per details shared on Carmel's official news release, the event is to feature a sequence of international Christmas caroling and an elaborate display of Christmas trees decorated to symbolize Carmel's connections to Sister Cities in Latvia, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, and India. Moreover, festive trees from China, Egypt, Greece, and Ukraine are to also make an appearance, visually encapsulating a truly international celebration.
Among the attractions promised is an hour to sit back and let a diverse range of international melodies serenade you. As guests are projected to mostly split their evening between the market hustle at Christkindlmarkt and the snug ambiance of the Civic Square, the festival's fresh spin on tradition seems well-positioned to become a staple of local holiday celebrations. Attendees can also look forward to warming beverages courtesy of Prufrock Coffee Company as they immerse themselves in these enriching cultural exchanges.
"Carmel is proud of its international connections, and the International Winter Festival is a beautiful way to share those relationships with the community," Mayor Sue Finkam pointed out. The sentiment reflects an earnest attempt to consciously weave together the threads of local community fabric with the vibrant patterns of global partnership. Finkam further encouraged the community to "enjoy the Christkindlmarkt, and then stop by Civic Square just a short walk away for an hour of beautiful international music and the spirit of global friendship," as mentioned on the City of Carmel website.
