The City of Champlin is inviting anglers to bundle up for the Frostbite 500 Trout Ice Fishing Contest, scheduled for Feb. 7, 2026. The event offers participants of all ages a chance to compete for prizes while spending a day on the ice. According to the city’s social media post, registration costs $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents.
For those still in the holiday giving spirit, a ticket to the Frostbite 500 could make a timely winter gift. The event is limited to 500 anglers, making early registration essential. Organisers note that participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, as detailed by the City of Champlin. Anglers must also have a valid Minnesota fishing license and trout stamp to take part. The three-hour contest runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Champlin Trout Pond, located at 10377 French Lake Road North.
Beyond the thrill of landing a trophy-sized trout, prizes will be awarded to the anglers who catch the three largest fish. As per the official announcement, participants will also have a chance to win hundreds of raffle prizes, adding to the event’s appeal.
Tickets for the Frostbite 500 are available through the City of Champlin’s official website. The event is weather permitting, though organizers expect ice conditions to be suitable. If weather forces a postponement, a make-up date is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2026.
