Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's North Division officers recently made four arrests following what began as a response to reports of a suspicious individual peering into parked cars. The CMPD's successful operation also led to the confiscation of multiple firearms, some reported as stolen, as shared in a post on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department official Facebook page.
Triggered by a call concerning a suspicious figure around the 6900 block of Northlake Mall Drive, the officers, encountering four males who aligned with descriptions tied to vehicle break-in attempts, happened upon a host of illegal items including a Tarus G2C 9mm, a Micro Draco AK Pistol, a .38 Rossi Revolver, two Glocks—one a 22, the other a 19, both acknowledged as stolen—and various burglary tools, these discoveries marked the start of what will now be a challenging road ahead for the apprehended individuals. According to the officers' report, the array of seized weaponry and tools geared towards theft signals a proactive strike against the specter of larceny haunting local motorists.
Diego Rio, age 20, is staring down severe charges, notably for being in possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction and coupling that charge with two more counts of possession of stolen firearms, as well as conspiring to commit motor vehicle theft coupled with carrying a concealed weapon on his person; while Jaiquel Eddie Cureton, also 20, Nathaniel Kendrick, 18, and an unnamed juvenile got tagged with conspiracy to commit the same category of theft—their intentions seemingly cut off at the pass by law enforcement before loss could be rendered upon unwitting car owners.
