The Chicago Police Department is sending out a community alert to the residents of Morgan Park following a series of armed robberies connected with online marketplace transactions. Individuals looking to sell brand gym shoes have been targeted by an armed assailant responding to online listings. According to official police communications, these incidents have taken place in various locations within the 22nd District (Morgan Park).
There have been four incidents reported between December 3rd and December 10th wherein the suspect, going by the alias 'Serving Best Deals' online, arranged to meet with sellers before brandishing a firearm and stealing the merchandise. In two of these robberies, a secondary offender was reported to have pointed a firearm at the victims as well. The encounters took place on the 1700 block of West Steuben, the 1700 block of West Edmaire, and twice on the 11300 block of South Davol.
The suspects are described as male and African American; the first, between 18 and 21 years old, roughly 5'10" to 6'00" in height, weighing 150 lbs., with a light complexion, dreadlock hairstyle, adorning a black puffy coat, gray pants, white Jordan gym shoes, and tattoos on both hands. The second suspect is described as between 25 and 30 years old, around 5'11", and was seen wearing all black.
The CPD offers actionable advice for anyone engaging in online transactions. They recommend using a Chicago Police Department lobby for the exchange of goods, thus providing a safer environment. The public is advised to "Value your life over any and all property," and to never resist or pursue a fleeing assailant during a robbery.
