A Chicago woman is currently out on pretrial release after being charged with four counts of aggravated DUI causing great bodily harm, which resulted in severe injury to a 10-year-old boy and injured three other members of his family. According to FOX 32 Chicago, 27-year-old Jaquelin Onofre Reyes was found with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.238, nearly three times the legal limit, following the crash on December 23rd.

Judge Joshua Dieden cited tragic circumstances but decided to allow Onofre Reyes to be released with stringent conditions, including no possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs, SCRAM electronic monitoring, and no contact with the victims. Despite the prosecution's request to detain her, the Court must determine if there are conditions that can mitigate the danger she presents, to potentially avoid holding her in custody. This information was detailed in a Facebook post by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The incident took place when Onofre Reyes, driving a Hummer SUV, attempted to pass traffic on Route 53 and, in doing so, collided with an Infiniti SUV carrying a family of four, including the injured 10-year-old boy who later required additional surgery to treat extensive injuries. Authorities found two open alcoholic beverages in the defendant's vehicle at the crash site.

In a statement relayed by FOX 32 Chicago, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin expressed his frustration, saying, "It is alleged that at the time of this crash, Onofre Reyes’ BAC was .238, or nearly three times the legal limit. What I find particularly infuriating in this case is that alcohol-related crashes, such as is alleged in this case, are 100% avoidable." Berlin strongly urged the public to refrain from driving under the influence and to seek alternative transportation if needed.

Lombard Chief of Police Joe Grage also commented on the case, emphasizing the recklessness and irresponsibility of the accused and the diligent work of law enforcement in bringing charges forward. The commitment to accountability for those driving impaired was highlighted alongside appreciation for the collaborative efforts of various departments. Given recent developments, Onofre Reyes is scheduled to return to court on January 20, 2026. The public is reminded that these charges are allegations, and Onofre Reyes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. This proceeding is set in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
