Minneapolis residents should bundle up as a brisk, cloudy week with scattered snow opportunities is ahead, according to the latest weather forecasts. Starting today, Minneapolis could see "a chance of flurries between 10am and 3pm," as reported by the National Weather Service. The temperatures will hover near a chilly high of 20 degrees, with a south wind blowing at a gentle pace of 5 to 10 mph.
Tonight's outlook won't provide much relief from the cold; it will be mostly cloudy with lows dropping around 11 degrees. Despite the cloud cover, the south-southwest winds will remain light at around 5 mph. On Tuesday, the city can anticipate "partly sunny" skies with a high nearing 24 degrees, an improvement over today's conditions but still demanding layers of warmth.
However, as Tuesday night rolls in, the snow probabilities rise with "a 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after midnight," and the clouds continue to dominate the sky. Temperatures will dip to a low near 17 degrees as winds shift from south to northwest post-midnight. "A temperature falling to around 11 by 5pm" is expected on Wednesday - the plummeting temperatures will be accompanied by a north-northwest wind around 10 mph, per forecasts.
Wednesday night, the mercury is poised to drop further, reaching a bitter low of -8 degrees under "mostly clear" conditions with the northwest winds holding steady between 5 to 10 mph. The cold snap breaks slightly on Thursday with "mostly sunny" conditions and a high near 14 degrees. The rather static winds continue from the south southwest at a mild 5 to 10 mph.
Looking toward the weekend, Minneapolis might face additional snow showers with a "20 percent chance of snow after noon" on Friday, according to forecasts. A gradual warming will raise Friday's high to approximately 27 degrees with relatively calm south-southwest winds. Such conditions foreshadow a 30 percent chance of snow both on Saturday and its night - the daytime will be "mostly cloudy" with a high near 24, while the nighttime will bring a low around 4 degrees and north winds gentle whispering.
Sunday will offer a brief reprieve from the snow chances with "partly sunny" skies, but the temperatures remain far from warm, with a high predicted near 13 degrees. The week ahead is indicative of Minneapolis’ typical winter fare – cold, occasionally snowy, and a reminder that the warmth of spring remains a distant promise.
