An early morning altercation on Christmas Eve resulted in a non-fatal shooting in Southwestern Atlanta. According to a statement released by the Atlanta Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence at 2924 Ridgeview Dr SW following reports of a person shot. Upon their arrival around 1:37 am, they found a man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his buttocks. The injury, fortunately, was not deemed to be life-threatening.
The victim was found to be alert, conscious and breathing and was quickly transported to Grady in stable condition. A male suspect, who remained at the scene, was detained to be interviewed by the officers. This incident appears to have sprung from an ongoing dispute between housemates, as both the suspect and victim rent rooms at the location. The Police Department's preliminary investigation suggests the two men were involved in a physical altercation before the shooting occurred. The suspect claimed the victim brandished a firearm during their dispute, which led to them to struggle for the weapon. The suspect then disclosed his own firearm and in an attempt to deescalate the situation, discharged his weapon towards the ground, inadvertently striking the victim. The incident unfolded inside the residence, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation.
