In the spirit of the holiday season, a Cincinnati couple, both alumni of the University of Cincinnati, have committed to supporting children in need through the proceeds from their self-published children's books. Vic and Laura Fahrner Troha, graduates of UC's College of Allied Health Sciences, are channeling their love for anatomy into philanthropy, with their educational books "A is for Anatomy" and "Counting Your Funny Bones," according to UC News.
The couple's dedication to giving back is set to benefit the Kindness for Kids initiative by Hamilton County Job and Family Services. According to the University of Cincinnati's news release, all sales from their books during this festive season will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for foster children. "We feel called to give," Laura Troha told University of Cincinnati's publication.
Continuing their generous efforts, the Trohas are also involving their children in the process to impart life lessons in generosity. The Trohas have begun shopping for presents and plan to drop them off soon, making it a family affair to instill the value of kindness in their two young daughters.
Education is at the heart of their books, with "A is for Anatomy" providing rhymes to teach correct names for body parts, while "Counting Your Funny Bones" mixes counting with fun body facts. An interesting touch to their work is the personal connection each book has to their family. Their daughter is featured on the cover of "A is for Anatomy," illustrated by Tyra Victor, a student they connected with through the University of Cincinnati's network.
Vic and Laura Troha's love story adds a human element to their mission. The couple met unexpectedly during their commencement in 2012 and have since built a life together, coupled with their professional endeavors—Vic in physical therapy and Laura in medical imaging technology. Their shared experiences and passions now translate into an educational legacy for their children and an act of kindness that extends to the broader community during the holidays.
