As the holiday season rolls around, festive cheer and altered schedules go hand in hand. For those in the City and Broward County, this means changes to the administrative office hours, garbage collection, park operations, and public transit services in observance of Christmas and New Year's Day. City officials have announced closures on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day for administrative matters, while maintaining certain services throughout the holidays, as per the city's announcement.
In specifics, City administrative offices will not be open on Wednesday, December 24, nor on Thursday, December 25t with further closures on Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1. Broward County offices are following a similar holiday schedule, shuttering on December 25 and January 1. However, the city has emphasized that online services, including various payments, will remain available throughout the holiday season.
When it comes to trash collection, adjustments have been made to accommodate the holiday cheer. Bulk waste collection will be postponed on Christmas Day for Zone #8 and the Lakes of Emerald Hills. Residents in these areas can expect their bulk waste to be collected the following day, on Friday, December 26. According to the information provided by the City, all other waste services scheduled for December 25 will resume on the next regular service day without delays.
For the outdoorsy types or those looking to stretch their legs after a hefty holiday feast, all City-operated parks, including Dowdy Field, Hollywood West Field, and Rotary Park, will welcome visitors from sunrise to sunset even on the holiday dates. Yet, Community Centers and additional recreational facilities like Boggs Field, and Driftwood Pool & Athletic Complex will take a brief hiatus, closing their doors on the same days as the administrative offices.
And for those relying on public transportation, take heed—Holiday schedules will affect both the Sun Shuttle and Holly-Go Community Shuttle services with suspensions on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, Broward County Transit and Tri-Rail plan to operate, albeit with special holiday timetables in place to accommodate the seasonal slowdown.
