The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office just got a bit more paw-some with the addition of K9 Saar, the newest member of their K9 unit. According to the Sheriff's Office social media post, this Belgian Malinois was inducted into the team on June 11, 2025, and has been paired with handler Deputy Rogers. Saar hails from Holland, where she was born on September 12, 2023, and responds to commands given in Dutch.
In the Sheriff's post, the enthusiasm was palatable as they welcomed Saar on board. Saar's key area of specialization is in Patrol, making her an invaluable asset to the unit with her specific skill-set. When the duty badge comes off, Saar unwinds like the rest of us— her go-to relaxation involves her favorite toy, a ball on a rope. Canines like Saar are more than just law enforcement tools; they become integral members of the community they serve, fostering connections and occasionally trading cards. Yes, she has her own trading card, which residents can ask for when meeting the pair.
The Sheriff's Office notes, "Welcome aboard, K9 Saar! If you meet Saar and Deputy Rogers, be sure to ask for their K9 trading card!" The introduction of a K9 to the local law enforcement isn't just a newsworthy tidbit—it's an expansion in the capabilities of the force to protect and serve. These dogs are trained to handle various tasks that complement the efforts of their human counterparts.
Reaction to the news on social media has been positive, with community members expressing both excitement and support for the new furry officer. Saar's addition represents the ongoing efforts to bolster the Sheriff's Office's resources and the ongoing relationship between K9 units and the community. As Saar settles into her role, she's pawed to make an immediate impact on the ground, symbolizing the bond of trust and partnership that is essential to the essence of community policing.
